Ojibway Nation of Saugeen

Ashly Derosier, Board Director is a member of the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen, nestled in Northwestern Ontario within the Thunder Bay District, lies approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Savant Lake. Positioned along the picturesque shores of Kashawagama Lake, our community is situated 50 kilometers northeast of Sioux Lookout and accessible year-round via road, just off the Pickle Lake highway.

With a registered population of 201 (April 2007), including 109 members residing off-reserve, Saugeen stands as a testament to resilience and cultural heritage. In December 1991, the Governments of Canada, Ontario, the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation, and six member First Nations (Aroland, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, New Slate Falls, Saugeen, and Wawakapewin) forged an agreement to allocate lands for Indian reserves in these communities, facilitating essential community infrastructure.
