Tara Ingram has over twenty years’ experience working with First Nations in Northern Ontario on Economic Development, tourism and marketing. She is knowledgeable on aboriginal issues and political structures in aboriginal organizations and government relations. Within her current role with Nokiiwin Tribal Council she utilizes her skills and expertise from her previous positions. Her previous employment was with the Northern Ontario Native Tourism Association where she had gained firsthand experience in working and travelling to First Nations communities, assisting in business start-ups and providing advice on Economic Development, tourism and marketing issues. She has provided support at a grass roots level to entrepreneurs in the development of their business ventures from conception to realization. Tara has travelled extensively overseas marketing aboriginal tourism products in Europe and particularly the German market. She has fostered good working relationships and partnerships between First Nations, the three levels of governments, organizations, communities and private stakeholders.

Scott Baker has a Masters of Education from Lakehead University and ten years of experience working in the education field as a teacher and administrator. Scott is the coordinator of the Mino-niigaanendmowin Education & Lifeskills program.

Lisa is fortunate to have lived and worked in the territory of Fort William First Nation for most of her life. Having recently attained my Masters of Education, specializing in Indigenous education, she appreciates the opportunity to work with Nokiiwin’s member communities to support second level education services in these communities. Lisa’s current responsibilities include work with tuition agreements, school health and safety plans and in drafting an education pathway for Nokiiwin’s members that includes commitments to language, culture and life-long learning. Lisa enjoys canoeing, snowshoeing, cycling and camping with her family. If you would like to discuss education opportunities, please don’t hesitate to contact Lisa.

Kerri is a human resources professional who comes to Nokiiwin with over 15 years of education and experience in HR, mainly within the healthcare industry. Kerri’s expertise has been focused on policy and procedure writing, project management, health & safety, human resource information systems, conflict resolution and crisis management.

With a passion for helping people and a penchant for change, Kerri is excited to bring her skills to the G’minoomaadozimin – “We are living well” Health & Safety initiative and is looking forward to educating communities on the value of mental wellness.

Erin Desjardins

Erin, previously the Mining Development Coordinator has recently taken over the position of the Waste Management Coordinator with Nokiiwin Tribal Council. She looks forward to working with all of Nokiiwin’s communities on waste management strategies. She is a band member of Eabametoong First Nation (Fort Hope), born and raised in Thunder Bay with many of her family being members of Animbiigoo Zaagi’igan Anishinaabek. She is a graduate of Lakehead University with an Honours degree in Environmental Science, majoring in Biology.

Erin spent a summer working with the Ministry of Natural Resources as a fisheries technician conducting angler surveys and participating in various other fisheries programs.  Her previous employment was with Indigenous and Community Engagement providing support on various projects in First Nation communities in northern Ontario.  She also spent time travelling to remote communities to assist with engagement sessions pertaining to an All-Season Community Road study. 

Erin likes to spend her free time in the garage with her husband working on their drag-racing cars, and going back to her roots by spending time on the land hunting and fishing.

Corey Anderson is a member of Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek (Gull Bay First Nation) and is passionate about self-determined economic development. Having completed his Master of Arts in Tourism Management at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia, he has worked in the tourism industry for seven-plus years, developing formative experience in strategic planning, digital marketing, stakeholder relations and event management. Having travelled, lived, been educated and worked in many different locations around the world, he is dedicated to building people-to-people connections, supporting cultural exchange, expanding trade opportunities and helping convey the many fantastic opportunities in Northern Ontario.

Cheryl Suggashie

Cheryl Suggashie is Nokiiwin's new Community Legal Worker. Cheryl is from Pikangikum First Nation but has been residing in an urban setting most of her life. Cheryl has over 14 years of educational experience in the Law and Indigenous Social Justice field. She recently graduated from the Master of Social Justice program at Lakehead University and has been a strong advocate for Indigenous Justice in Thunder Bay. She currently volunteers as a Council Member, through the Aboriginal Community Council Program at the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre. As the new Community Legal Worker, Cheryl is the first Point of Contact for Nokiiwin community members and clients who are or may be involved with the justice system, Legal Aid Ontario or the court system.

One of the overarching goals of Cheryl's position is to identify potential community diversions and assist with Restorative Justice Circles as an Indigenous based justice approach. Cheryl is responsible for advanced notice of court days, referrals, diversions, public legal education and will act as an ambassador for Nokiwiin and its member communities by regularly liaising with regional and Indigenous organizations affiliated with the judicial system.
